On August 2, 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated an ambitious new healthcare initiative titled “Nalam Kaakkum Stalin.” This flagship scheme aims to bring quality medical care to the doorsteps of people statewide, serving both rural and urban communities.
A total of 1,256 free medical camps were organised simultaneously in all 38 districts, including 15 camps in Chennai alone. Each camp offers comprehensive health check-ups such as sugar level screening, blood pressure measurement, X-Ray, ECG, cancer screening, tuberculosis tests, and leprosy tests. Importantly, patients can also consult with specialised doctors on-site, covering a wide range of medical disciplines.
The Tamil Nadu Health Department confirmed that these camps will operate in 388 blocks, with 3 camps per block, ensuring wide coverage. This initiative is being recognised as one of the largest preventive and diagnostic health outreach programs launched by any Indian state government in 2025.
Health Minister M. Subramanian stated, “Our goal is to provide equal access to health services for everyone, regardless of their location or economic status. These camps will help detect diseases early and provide essential medical care, further improving the state’s public health.”
The scheme has received appreciation from citizens and healthcare professionals, who note its potential impact especially in underserved areas where access to specialised medical care is often limited
