On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Surampatti police in Erode district apprehended a man named Ismail for the sexual harassment of a 12-year-old boy with learning difficulties.
The incident unfolded the previous day when the child failed to return home from his special school. Concerned, his family filed a missing person complaint with the authorities, prompting an immediate search. The next day, the boy was found in the Kallukkadai Medu area by the police.
Investigation revealed that Ismail had intercepted the boy on a two-wheeler while returning home from school. He then took the boy to an abandoned railway building, where the abuse occurred. Alarmed and distressed, the boy raised an alarm, and Ismail left him at the aforementioned location.
Authorities subsequently arrested Ismail and charged him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He has been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
